He is a Founder and Senior Partner, Al Tamimi & Company. A national of the United Arab Emirates, Essam Al Tamimi graduated with an LL.B. from Al Ain Law School. He holds an LL.M. degree from the Harvard Law School, and is licensed as an advocate to practice in the United Arab Emirates. Essam works closely with the UAE Government, assisting it with regulatory work. He is widely regarded as one of the most experienced dispute resolution lawyers in the Middle East. He is the author of several books including ‘Setting Up in Dubai’, ‘The Practical Guide to Litigation and Arbitration in the United Arab Emirates’ and the UAE chapter in ‘Arbitration World 2006.’ Since the UAE has recently acceded to the New York Convention on Arbitral Awards, arbitration has become that much more critical in the region. Essam is an active member of the International Bar Association, a former co-chair of the its Arab Regional Forum; the president of the UAE Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a council member of the ICC Court of International Arbitration, court member of the London Court of International Arbitration and president of the LCIA Arab Users’ Council, is a member of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) Board of Trustees, a member of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (FIAA) Board of Trustees. He is a registered arbitrator at the following institutions: the World Intellectual Property Organization, the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre in Bahrain and both the Dubai and Abu Dhabi Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration Centre's. Al Tamimi & Company has grown rapidly, and today, with over 100 attorneys and a similar number of support staff, it is the largest local, non-affiliated law firm in the Middle East, having offices in the Emirates of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. The firm also has an office in Baghdad-Iraq, Riyadh- Saudi Arabia and an associate office in Doha, Qatar.
