M
ichael E. Schneider is a founding partner of LALIVE, a Geneva based international law firm and of LALIVE IN QATAR LLP.
 
He practices international arbitration since over thirty years, appearing as counsel before arbitration tribunals under various rules, including ICC, ICSID, Stockholm Institute, Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, European Development Fund, UNCITRAL, and before other international bodies, including WTO Appellate Body and the United Nations Compensation Commission. He sat as arbitrator (chair, sole arbitrator or co-arbitrator) under the rules of many institutions and in various places, in Switzerland and elsewhere.
 

His main fields of practice include construction, industrial engineering and infrastructure projects, investment and other disputes involving States, natural resources, in particular oil and gas, environment, telecommunications, joint ventures. He has particular experience in large and complex disputes, setting up and leading teams of specialists in different fields and from different cultural backgrounds.


Mr Schneider chaired the UNCITRAL Working Group II since September 2006 when commenced its work on revising the Arbitration Rules and was a member of the Working Group preparing the last revision of the ICC Rules. He is a member of the Executive Committee of DIAC, as well as Vice Chair of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA).
