Dubai, UAE: To show the united support of Dubai behind the International Bar Association (IBA), a Dubai delegation, made up of senior representatives from Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Legal Affairs Department, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, as well as representatives of the Dubai International Arbitration Center, a Dubai Chamber initiative, is leaving for Vancouver, Canada, to participate in the annual IBA Conference from October 3 to 8.

The IBA is the world’s leading organization of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies that holds its annual conference in different parts of the world and this time their annual meeting is being held at the Vancouver Conference and Exhibition Center next week.

HE Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, maintained that the Dubai delegation’s participation in the IBA Conference will set the tone for the hosting of the international event in the Emirate next year as Dubai’s global outlook and business dynamism makes it an ideal setting for the IBA to continue its expansion of activities in the region. This event will definitely help promote Dubai as an international legal center of repute,” he said.

Buamim further stressed that the sound investment atmosphere offered by Dubai to its diverse business community support their growth and competitiveness in the global markets, pointing out that the continuous government support as well as the advanced infrastructure and the Emirate’s strategic location as a gateway to the regional markets strengthens the pioneering status of Dubai’s business community.

Said Buamim, “The IBA's decision to host their annual conference in Dubai is testament to the confidence major international entities have in Dubai as the Emirate has become a world-class destination for hosting major global exhibitions, conferences and events. It’s here that the Chamber’s strategic objective of promoting the Emirate as an international business hub comes into full play.”

Added Abdulla Al Awar, CEO of DIFC Authority, “Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in the region, and one of the world’s most prominent centres for business and leisure. With its undisputed status as the leading financial centre between Europe, Singapore and Hong Kong, it is ideally positioned to host the IBA conference in 2011.

“The DIFC has a world class, international standard, courts and legal system in place. Coupled with the extensive number of regional and international financial and corporate players based in the Centre, it provides the ideal environment for legal practitioners to establish a place of business. The DIFC is able to provide the opportunity for law firms to not only tap into the regional market, but also to develop their international business through regional companies looking for advice internationally.”

Highlighting the role of DIAC, Hassan Al Hashemi, Director, External Relations, Dubai Chamber, informed that the Center works hard to promote the importance of commercial arbitration and alternative means to resolve commercial disputes in laying the foundations of a healthy and productive work environment in Dubai. It seeks to provide a flexible and impartial mechanism in resolving and settling international disputes.

The International Bar Association (IBA), established in 1947, is the world’s leading organisation of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies. With a membership of more than 40,000 individual lawyers and 197 bar associations and law societies spanning all continents, the IBA influences the development of international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession throughout the world.
